The Washinton Huskies helped legitimize Southern Football

No, not by way of their 65-7 loss to Miami in 2001…  As a Washington Huskies historian of sorts, I have always held a fondness for the 1926 Rose Bowl and the UW’s two stars George Wilson and Elmer Tesreau.  I have also always wondered that if Wilson hadn’t gotten injured for nearly half of this game, the Huskies would have handily defeated the Crimson Tide.  Alas it wasn’t to be.  (Although legendary sportswriter Damon Runyan witnessed the game and later reported that Wilson was “as fine a player in this generation or any other.”    Click here to read the interesting column from the Bleacher Report that depicts how Alabama (led by Johnny Mack Brown) helped legitimize Southern football with their 20-19 triumph over the Huskies.
